United by a dream to transform Ithaca’s beloved art-house cinemas into a vital cultural institution, a handful of film-loving community members came together in 2000 to form the first board of directors of the Seventh Art Corporation of Ithaca. Fifteen years later, thanks to hard work, dedication, and the generosity of valued supporters, that dream has become a reality. Cinemapolis is now a premiere film center—a state-of-the-art facility where film is used to enrich people's lives, grapple with and illuminate contemporary issues, and, of course, entertain.

To keep this dream alive, the support of our community is more important than ever. We hope you'll join our current board and hundreds of community members in supporting Cinemapolis with a contribution to our 2015-16 Annual Fund.

During the past year, we’ve successfully implemented a number of strategic priorities to improve the theater and enhance our role in the community:
  • Increasing community partnerships with our fellow non-profits. In 2015, we hosted more than 50 screenings and events with local non-profits, campus organizations, and community groups.
  • Installing improved accessibility devices. Better assistive listening devices, in-seat captioning units, and descriptive narration for the visually impaired were added to our already fully accessible auditoriums.
  • Offering living wage. Each member of our dedicated staff is now compensated in accordance with the living wage standards presented in the most recent study conducted by Alternatives Federal Credit Union and endorsed by the Tompkins County Workers Center.
Since ticket sales cover less than 75% of our operating expenses, these accomplishments would not have been possible without the generous support of our membership.

To ensure continued progress and stability, we must reach our Annual Fund target of $75,000. Please consider an increased gift to this year’s fund. Your tax-deductible contribution guarantees that Cinemapolis will continue to be more than just a movie theater. Gifts to the annual fund feed the dream of an art house cinema that engages and enriches the community with a year-round program of films that entertain, educate and enhance our quality of life.

These contributions help foster the art of film in Tompkins County and beyond. This community’s commitment to Cinemapolis is truly inspiring.
